Vijayanagara Empire Legacy

Later Gupta dynasty

The Later Gupta dynasty was a significant political entity in eastern India, ruling over the Magadha region during the 6th and 7th centuries AD. Although they came after the fall of the imperial Gupta Empire, there is no direct evidence linking the two dynasties, suggesting that they were separate and distinct families. The term "Later Gupta" is used because the rulers of this dynasty bore the same "-gupta" suffix in their names, likely adopting it to emphasize their claim to be the legitimate successors of the earlier, more powerful Gupta rulers. This naming choice may have been a deliberate effort to align themselves with the prestige and legacy of the Gupta Empire, even though the two dynasties had no familial connection.
